Israel Launches Retaliation Against Iran After Saturday Drone Attack

Late Thursday evening, Israel launched a retaliatory attack against the Islamic Republic of Iran after the Jewish state withstood a drone attack from the Islamic state last Saturday.

Iran's Saturday drone attack on Israel was in response to the death of Iranian General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, who was killed by an Israeli airstrike earlier this month.

United States officials confirmed to ABC News that Israeli missiles had struck Iran late Friday.

Locals reported hearing multiple explosions which led to "houses shaking violently from the intensity of the explosions."

Other emerging reports claimed nuclear sites in Iran had been hit by Israel's attack, though the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) denied the claims.

Other reports claimed Syria and Iraq had also been hit by Israel's attack, though the source could not confirm. At least two other retaliatory attacks were aborted by Israel since Iran's Saturday attack, per ABC News.

Shortly after Israel's retaliation, flights to Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz were suspended after reports of an explosion heard in Qahjavaristan, located near Isfahan Airport. Other flights preparing for arrival in Iran were reportedly rerouted. Iran resumed scheduled flights early Friday morning.

Senior Israeli officials were reportedly present in the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv Friday morning as Israel's retaliation commenced.

According to CNN, the United States was informed on Thursday by Israel of their planned retaliation, according to a senior official. "We didn't endorse the response," the official said.

Despite conflict between the two countries, Israel has announced they will not accept responsibility for their retaliation, per The Jerusalem Post.

Iranian media reportedly downplayed Israel's retaliation, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Israel's strike on Iran took place on the morning of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's birthday.
