House Freedom Caucus Elects Bob Good As Next Chairman

The House Freedom Caucus has elected Virginia Rep. Bob Good as their next chairman.

The Virginia representative, who will succeed Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry as chairman, was elected Monday night and is scheduled to assume his position in January.

Good has been a member of the House Freedom Caucus since 2021 and has previously served on the group's Board of Directors.

"It is my privilege and honor to serve as the next House Freedom Caucus chairman," Good said in a Tuesday statement. "I thank Rep. Perry for his outstanding leadership of the caucus, and I look forward to building on the work he has done and continuing the fight to reduce government spending, secure our borders, and defend our constitutional freedoms."

Good has made himself one of the strongest opponents to the Biden administration as he has voted in line with President Joe Biden's 2.7% of his time in office, according to FiveThirtyEight.

The Virginia representative was also one of the eight Republicans, led by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who voted to remove California Rep. Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House in October.

President of the conservative Heritage Foundation Kevin Roberts praised Good's record in a statement.

“Under his leadership, we are confident the HFC will continue to serve as a formidable force in upholding conservative ideals and combating misguided far-Left policies that threaten the fabric of our nation,” Roberts said.

Fellow member of the House Freedom Caucus, Ohio Rep. Warren Davidson, penned a letter critical of Good and said he would not seek re-election to the group's board.

"I am energized by the HFC mission and driven by the urgent need to defend freedom," Davidson wrote in his Sunday letter. "I believe HFC serves a vital function for our nation."

Davidson said the group must not miss opportunities to "achieve what can be done."

"I am concerned that our group often relies too much on power (available primarily due to the narrow majority) and too little on influence with and among our colleagues," he said.

The Ohio representative said the approach was "not a strong foundation for future success."

"For me, these concerns culminate with the Board's recommendation that Bob Good serve as the next Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus," he continued. "I ask that we consider how to best increase our influence while preserving our power to move policy in the right direction."

"I strongly feel that Bob Good as chairman will impair that objective," Davidson added.
