George Carlin's Daughter Pans AI Comedy Special Using Father's Likeness

Late comedian George Carlin's daughter panned a recent AI generated comedy special featuring her father's likeness.

The comedy special, titled George Carlin: I'm Glad I'm Dead, was published to YouTube on Tuesday by comedy AI account Dudesy, which is run by fellow comedian and actor Will Sasso and podcaster Chad Kultgen. Carlin's voice, cadence, and comedy style is recreated in the hour-long special which comments on current events including tech mogul and X owner Elon Musk, Tesla, and streaming services.

According to Kelly Carlin, Sasso and Kultgen did not receive permission from Carlin's family before moving forward with the project.

Kelly shared her thoughts on the recent AI comedy special featuring her father's likeness in a Wednesday X post.

"My dad spent a lifetime perfecting his craft from his vey human life, brain, and imagination," daughter Kelly wrote. "No machine will ever replace his genius."

Kelly said "AI generated products" are "clever attempts at trying to recreate a mind that will never exist again."

"Let the artist's work speak for itself," she continued in another post. "Humans are so afraid of the void that we can't let what has fallen into it stay there."

Kelley proposed listening to "actual living human comedians" rather than AI generated comedy.

"If you want to listen to the genuine George Carlin, he has 14 specials that you can find anywhere," she concluded.

"Thank you all for your support regarding this AI bot (?) that has arrogantly stepped over a line in the world of comedy today that will surely affect dead artists and their estates now," Kelly wrote in a follow-up post warning fellow late comedians Robin Williams, Joan Rivers, and Gary Shandling would also be targeted.

Carlin, who passed away in 2008, was considered one of the most influential stand-up comedians of all time. The late comedian's materiel frequently commented on human psychology, the English language, religion, government and a number of taboo subjects.

Along with his 14 stand-up comedy specials, Carlin made multiple appearances on late-night television including The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live. The comedian was also featured in a series of films, including Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and its sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Carlin was also featured in several films from writer and director Kevin Smith, including Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl.

Carlin briefly starred in his own sitcom, The George Carlin Show, in which the comedian played a New York City taxi driver. The show ran for two seasons in 1994 and 1995.
