Twitter owner Elon Musk announced he has hired a new CEO for the platform.
Although Musk did not reveal the identity of the new "X/Twitter” CEO he said "she" would start in about six weeks.
"My role will transition to being exec chair and CTO, overseeing product, software and sysops," Musk said of his position within Twitter.
In December, Musk, who has run a series of polls requesting user input, ran a poll asking if he should step down as head of Twitter.
"I will abide by the results of this poll," the tech billionaire wrote.
Of over 17.5 million respondents participating, 57.5% voted in favor of Musk stepping down as head of the platform while 42.5% voted in favor of Musk remaining as head of the company.
The tech billionaire jokingly responded to the poll by saying he would resign "as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!"
"After that, I will just run the software and servers teams," he clarified.
Musk has been speculated to transition or incorporate Twitter into an "everything" app, otherwise known as "X."
In a Wednesday tweet, Musk confirmed previous speculation after one user noted Twitter was listed as "Twitter Inc." on iOS though was labeled as "X Corp" on Android.
"Twitter is an accelerant for X," Musk responded.
The tech billionaire has previously made cryptic references to speculation of an "X" app.
In April, Musk simply tweeted, "X."
In August 2022, prior to his acquisition of Twitter, Musk responded to one user who asked if the tech billionaire would create his own social media platform should his purchase of Twitter not go through. Musk responded, "X.com" — leading to a website reportedly purchased by the tech billionaire five years prior, according to Business Insider.
In October, shortly before his purchase of the platform was completed, the tech billionaire said his purchase of Twitter was an "accelerant to creating X, the everything app."
During last year's Tesla Annual Meeting of Stockholders in August, Musk said he had a "pretty grand vision" of "something that would be very useful to the world," the outlet reported.
The timeline and specific plans for "X" are unknown, though Musk has announced a series of updates to Twitter set to take effect, including an early version of encrypted direct message which launched today.
"Try it, but don't trust it yet," he said.
