DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Tests Positive for COVID

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has tested positive for COVID-19.

The mayor announced her diagnosis on Twitter on Thursday.

Bowser joins a growing list of politicians who have tested positive this week, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Adam Schiff.

The Democrat mayor reportedly tested positive with an at-home test on Wednesday evening, and the diagnosis was later confirmed with a PCR test.

Bowser said that she had been experiencing what seemed “mild cold-like/allergy-like symptoms” for the past week.

“Friends — Yesterday, I tested positive for COVID. After experiencing allergy symptoms this week, I took an at-home test yesterday and a PCR test confirmed the positive result,” Bowser tweeted.

“Prayerfully, my household will remain negative. I continue to experience mild cold-like/allergy-like symptoms. I’m grateful that I can work at home while following isolation protocols,” she wrote in a subsequent tweet.

In a statement about his positive test result, Rep. Schiff said that he was "grateful to be vaccinated and boosted."

“This evening, I unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19,” he said. “I’m feeling fine, and grateful to be vaccinated and boosted. In the coming days, I will quarantine and follow CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidelines.”

Rep. Joaquin Castro, Attorney General Merrick Garland, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Jamal Simmons, Vice President Kamala Harris’s communications director all announced that they had COVID on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a report from The Hill.

"Those five attended the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington on Saturday night. The event is an annual gathering of high-profile guests in the nation’s capital featuring skits and roasts knocking politicians and other prominent people," the report explained. "Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and Katherine Clark (D-Mass.), who did not attend the event, also tested positive this week."

Mayor Bowser was not in attendance at the dinner.
