Author Coleman Hughes recounted his recent appearance on The View during a Wednesday appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience.
Last week, Hughes appeared on The View to promote his new book, The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America. During his appearance, co-host Sunny Hostin sparred with the author over his argument for "colorblindness" and claimed he was being "used as a pawn by the right."
Hughes recounted his experience with Rogan saying he had "no idea what to expect" during his appearance on the program.
"I didn't know who Sunny Hostin was, I actually still really don't know," Hughes told Rogan. "I wasn't expecting necessarily for her to kind of try to ambush me in that way and attack my character in that way and I responded to it in the moment as I do, and I didn't expect it to go as viral as it did, but I think it arguably went more viral than anything I've ever done."
Hughes noted the audience appeared to be on his side during his back-and-forth with Hostin.
Rogan said The View was a show "people love to hate" because hosts say "ridiculous things," and described the program as a "rabies-infested henhouse."
"The real fans of The View that are like, ‘Oh, these ladies are on point,’ most of those people can't leave the house, like they're probably immobile," Rogan said, adding Hostin appeared to be intelligent, though was "ideologically captured" while other hosts were "dull minded."
Hughes added he believed Hostin entered the conversation with an "agenda."
During his appearance, Hostin claimed to have read Hughes' new book twice, which the author said was "almost certainly not true."
"Part of the reason it went viral is because, what people have told me is, you very rarely see someone who gets a character attack on a big TV platform calmly expose it as evidence-free and then just move back to the topic," Hughes said of their interaction.
Hughes contested Hostin's remarks by saying he didn't believe there was any evidence that he was co-opted by anyone.
"I think that’s an ad-hominem tactic people use to not address, really, the important conversations we’re having here," Hughes said.
