Car Burglars Rob Rep. Adam Schiff in San Francisco

Car burglars in San Francisco robbed Rep. Adam Schiff of his luggage on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Schiff was parked in a downtown parking garage when his bags were stolen.

Unfortunately for the senate candidate, this meant that he had to speak at an upscale dinner party without a suit.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports, "The heist meant the Democratic congressman got stuck at a fancy dinner party in his shirt sleeves and a hiking vest while everyone else sat in suits. Not quite the look the man from Burbank was aiming for as he rose to thank powerhouse attorney Joe Cotchett for his support in his bid to replace the late Dianne Feinstein in the U.S. Senate."

Cotchett told the outlet that he was impressed by how unruffled Schiff was about the crime.

“Adam really showed himself tonight,” Cotchett said. “He’ll be a great senator — he’s going to change the Senate tremendously.”

Schiff told the paper that he did not want to dwell on the situation.

“Yes, they took my bags,” Schiff said. “But I’m here to thank Joe.”

Schiff had been warned not to leave anything in his vehicle but was rushing and did not want to be late.

San Francisco has gained quite a reputation for rampant crime. The New York Post noted that "In one 30-day period last year, the city saw a whopping 1,670 car burglaries."
