BREAKING: Multiple Fatalities Reported in Shooting at Virginia Walmart

A mass shooting at a Virginia Walmart has left several people dead and more injured.

The shooter is among the deceased.

The incident occurred at the Sam’s Circle store in Chesapeake around 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

It is currently unknown how many people were killed, but Chesapeake PD spokesperson Leo Kosinski told WAVY News that they believe the number is fewer than ten.

Witnesses told the station that there were several dead and injured inside the building, as well as a deceased victim at the entrance.

According to a store greeter, the suspect began shooting at the back of the store while it was still open.

The police did not release the name of the shooter, who killed them, or any details about a possible motive during a press briefing that took place at 12:40 a.m. More information is expected to be released in the morning.

WAVY reports that a spokesperson for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital confirmed that they were treating five patients who were wounded during the shooting.

Police are urging those who may have had a loved one shopping or working at the store to go to the Chesapeake Conference Center.

“We are shocked at this tragic event at our Chesapeake, Virginia store. We’re praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We’re working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates,” Walmart said in a statement shortly after the incident.

Democrat Virginia Senator Mark Warner shared a statement on Twitter saying that he is "sickened by reports of yet another mass shooting, this time at a Walmart in Chesapeake. I’ll be monitoring developments closely."

"In the meantime, I urge all those in the community to listen to guidance from local law enforcement and stay away from the scene," Warner's tweet continued.
