Biden Appears to Fall Asleep While Meeting Maui Survivors, Compares Fire to Almost Losing His Corvette

President Joe Biden is facing extreme backlash online after appearing to fall asleep while meeting with Maui survivors and comparing the fire to almost losing his Corvette.

It is estimated that over 1,000 people, including children, remain missing. Over 100 deaths have been confirmed.

The town of Lahaina has been almost entirely reduced to ashes after the wildfire rampaged out of control on August 8. Biden did not visit until Monday, taking two vacations before appearing on the island.

During his visit, he met with survivors of the fire who spoke about the problems and challenges that they are facing. A clip of Biden seemingly napping as someone spoke has gone viral on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

"Octogenarian Joe Biden seems to be falling asleep while 'meeting with survivors' of the Maui fires," Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk posted with a video of the president appearing to nap. "National embarrassment!"

Biden also insulted many by comparing the disaster to an incident at his home where he claims that he "almost" lost his wife, cat, and prized Corvette.

"I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill and I, of what it was like to lose a home," Biden said. "Years ago, now, 15 years, I was in Washington doing ‘Meet the press’… Lightning struck at home on a little lake outside the home - not a lake, a big pond. It hit the wire and came up underneath our home, into the…air condition ducts."

"To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my 67 Corvette, and my cat," he said.

After making the "joke," the president added, "all kidding aside, I watched the firefighters, the way they responded...You're all crazy, thanks God. People who run into flames to save other people. And they ran into flames to save my wife, to save my family. Not a joke."
