Alleged Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Celebration Shooter Told Police He Was 'Just Being Stupid'

One of the men charged with murder over the mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl celebration told police that he was "just being stupid" when he opened fire into a large crowd.

The shooting left 22 people injured and a 43-year-old mother of two, Elizabeth Galvan, dead.

Nearly half of the victims were under 16 years old.

Lyndell Mays, 22, of Raytown, Missouri, was caught on surveillance footage aggressively approaching a group of strangers during a verbal dispute.

According to police affidavits obtained by Fox News, "the argument between the two groups began over the belief that people in the other group were staring at them."

"The video showed Mays was the first to begin shooting at a person who was running away from him despite being surrounded by crowds of people, including children, according to the affidavit," the report said.

Speaking to detectives at the hospital where he was being treated, Mays said that he had "hesitated shooting because he knew there were kids there."

"Stupid, man. Just pulled a gun out and started shooting," Mays told the detectives, according to the affidavit. "I shouldn’t have done that. Just being stupid."

The gun Mays used was stolen, according to court documents.

Mays and Dominic M. Miller, 18, of Kansas City, have both been charged with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Both suspects are being held on $1 million bail.

Miller was part of the other group and is believed to be the one who shot and killed Galvan.
