Tulsa District Attorney Stabbed By Daughter, Police Make Arrest

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler was stabbed several times Tuesday evening, according to local police who responded to the incident and arrested the DA's daughter.

According to local ABC affiliate KTUL in Oklahoma, the district attorney called 911 on his own after his adult daughter, Jennifer, stabbed him repeatedly. Kunzweiler explained that he and his daughter, who he said suffered from mental health issues, had been arguing when she began assaulting him. Police confirmed that they believe the situation escalated because of her mental condition. Both Kunzweiler and his daughter were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries before being released and arrested respectively.

The district attorney personally issued a brief statement concerning what transpired but went into little detail other than to thank the first responders and medical professionals who provided him with care, and to confirm that his injuries were minor enough to allow him to return home.

“Unfortunately today, I found myself in a situation that I hoped would never happen. Fortunately, my injuries are such that I was able to go home. Thank you to everyone who expressed concern for me and my family. I am most appreciative of the response from the Tulsa Fire Department, EMSA, the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. I am also very grateful for the professionalism and care of the staff and doctors at Saint Francis Hospital in treating me for my injuries."

His office also issued a statement of its own:
"Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler was allegedly stabbed more than once by an adult family member on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Kunzweiler was immediately taken to the hospital by emergency services. All relevant police authorities are aware of the situation and are conducting their investigations presently. Mr. Kunzweiler was awake and talking on the way to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries. The entire Kunzweiler family would appreciate your prayers and concerns as they go through this struggle. They would also appreciate your concern for their privacy at this time."

Kunzweiler is a Republican who began serving the district in 2015 and has 28 years of experience as a criminal prosecutor, according to his campaign website. He and his wife Christine have three daughters.
