Trump to Be Protected By Bulletproof Glass At Outdoor Rallies

The U.S. Secret Service is significantly enhancing security measures for former President Donald J. Trump by implementing new protections such as ballistic glass at outdoor rallies.

These steps follow a recent assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, that narrowly missed Trump.

In the attack, a shooter positioned on the roof of a building approximately 150 yards from where Trump was speaking managed to fire several shots before being neutralized by a Secret Service sniper.

The incident, which resulted in a spectator’s death and injuries to two others, is widely regarded as the agency’s most significant failure since John Hinckley’s attempt on President Ronald Reagan's life in 1981.

One of the bullets grazed Trump's ear, marking a close call for the former president.

The assassination attempt, broadcast live on television, has intensified scrutiny on the Secret Service. In the wake of the attack, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned amid mounting pressure from lawmakers. In her resignation letter, Cheatle acknowledged the severe scrutiny and took full responsibility for the security lapse, noting that the agency's "operational tempo" would increase.

As part of the enhanced security measures, the Secret Service will increase the number of agents assigned to Trump’s detail and introduce undisclosed technological upgrades, according to an official who spoke with CNN.

Ballistic glass, typically reserved for sitting presidents and vice presidents, will be strategically placed in cities where Trump is expected to visit.

“Former presidents and candidates don’t normally get bulletproof glass or support from DOD,” an unnamed official told The Washington Post. “This glass needs to be brought in on trucks and vans.”

The Secret Service says it will be strategically placing the ballistic glass around the country in cities where Trump is likely to visit, CNN reported.

“It is a significant undertaking when it comes to logistics,” the official told CNN.

Officials told NBC News that the agency will also be increasing threat analysis and prevention for all protective details, which will include the deployment of counter-snipers and countersurveillance.
