The suspected 14-year-old active shooter at Mount Horeb Middle School in Wisconsin is dead.

Unnamed sources who spoke with ABC News claim the suspect died following an encounter with police.

The sources further said the deceased teen approached the school with "what appeared to be a long gun."

Mount Horeb Area School District informed the public that the shooter did not breach the entryway in a Facebook post.

“Police department is helping to scope out our building to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” the message said before telling parents to not come to the school.

At 11:16 a.m. (CDT), the school district was placed on a full lockdown.

A subsequent post stated that the “threat has been neutralized outside of the building” and that all “students will remain in hard lockdown throughout all of our buildings.”

A follow-up post said an initial search of the middle school "has not yielded additional suspects. As importantly, we have no reports of individuals being harmed, with the exception of the alleged assailant."

We are in the process right now of a systematic release of middle school students to use restrooms interior to the middle school. They are not being released at this time."

"I never cease to be amazed by the loving dedication and support by the adults in this community for our beautiful children," an earlier post stated.
