Missouri AG Andrew Bailey: 'It’s Time to Eradicate Taxpayer Funding for Planned Parenthood'

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced that there is evidence that Planned Parenthood in Kansas City has trafficked underage girls out of state to undergo abortions without the consent of their parents.

Under Missouri law, abortions are prohibited unless the procedure is deemed necessary because of a medical emergency.

That is a direct violation of Missouri law,” said Baily in a statement on X on Feb. 5. “I am taking legal action to ensure it never happens again.”

He called for the state to permanently defund Planned Parenthood and that he would “proudly defend such legislation in court.”

“It’s time to eradicate taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood in Missouri once and for all to end this pattern of abhorrent, unethical, and illegal behavior,” said Bailey.

Two state senators, Nick Schroer and Mary Elizabeth Coleman, have already filed legislation that would bar any public funds from being distributed to any abortion facility.

According to Senate Bill 1168, which would go into effect in August if passed:

Any taxpayer, as well as the attorney general, shall have standing to bring a cause of action in any court or administrative agency of competent jurisdiction to enforce these provisions, as described in the act…

Additionally, this act requires the Department to suspend, revoke, or cancel any contract or provider agreement or refuse to enter into a new contract or provider agreement with any provider when it is determined that the provider is not qualified to perform the required services because such provider has committed certain offenses specified in the act, including being found guilty of a pattern of intentional discrimination in the delivery or non-delivery of health care services or being founded by a person who supported eugenics, or if the provider is an abortion facility or an affiliate or associate thereof.

Schroer and Coleman’s bill comes in the wake of a video from Project Veritas wherein an undercover journalist asked the staff at a Planned Parenthood in Missouri for assistance obtaining an abortion for a 13-year-old girl without involving or informing her parents, per WND.

Jordan Weldon, a representative of Project Veritas from New York, testified to the validity of the video in question, which purports to show a Planned Parenthood employee discussing taking minors across state lines to administer abortions,” reported the Springfield News-Leader in January. “The identity of the person has not been confirmed, nor has their affiliation with any Planned Parenthood clinic in Missouri.”

Pro-abortion advocates in Missouri want this year’s ballot to include a resolution proposing abortion be recognized as a right through an amendment to the state’s constitution. The amendment would permit women to terminate their pregnancies until fetal viability or the 24th week of pregnancy. Additionally, it would bar the state government from infringing on women’s rights to make decisions about prenatal, childbirth, postpartum care, birth control, and miscarriage care.
