July Fundraising: Harris $310M, Trump $140M

Vice President Kamala Harris has set a new fundraising record, stacking up $310 million in donations for the month of July, her campaign has announced.

The massive cash haul is more than double the donations garnered by the campaign of former President Donald Trump, which reported about $140 million.

For Harris, $200 million was raised during the week after President Joe Biden declared he would no longer seek re-election.

In the hours after Biden’s announcement, corporate media galvanized around Harris as the presumptive nominee with a united voice and fervor reminiscent of the 2008 Obama campaign.

Democratic activists and organizations mobilized online with a massive showing of support, careening Harris toward a record-setting $81 million in donations in the first 24 hours after Biden dropped out.

Harris’ July numbers are nearly as much as the Biden campaign raised in March, April, May, and June combined.

Trump’s July numbers exceeded June by more than $20 million, bringing the campaign’s cash on hand to $327 million. The Harris campaign says it has $377 million cash on hand.

Many of the donations for the Harris campaign are being funneled through ActBlue, a Democratic donation portal that has been mired in controversy amid allegations of money laundering.

Investigations by former Project Veritas head James O’Keefe revealed that donations are being made in the names of people who say they are not contributing in the amounts or frequency attributed to them.

His investigation has also unearthed evidence that at least 60 percent of the donations passing through ActBlue originate in China. O’Keefe says that watchdog Election Watch is filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and a lawsuit in the northern district of Virginia.

Last November, an O’Keefe investigation found that similar questionable donations were being funneled through WinRed, the Republican counterpart to ActBlue.

FEC records show that a top donor in New Jersey contributed $154,000 to WinRed. When asked about the donations, the woman told O’Keefe, “I can’t imagine that I did that. That’s like impossible.”
