Jake Paul Slated to Fight 57-Year-Old Boxing Legend Mike Tyson

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is scheduled to fight heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson in an exhibition boxing match on July 20.

The fight will be exclusively broadcast live on Netflix, from the 80,000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which is home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Tyson, 57, has not fought since 2005, boasts a career with 50 wins and only six losses, with 44 fights won by knockout.

“I'm very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas,” Mike Tyson said in a joint statement with Paul and Netflix. “He's grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It's a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him.”

“Iron Mike” Tyson holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA, and IBF world heavyweight titles, and the first heavyweight boxer to hold the titles simultaneously.

In 2011, he was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Paul, 27, whose record is 9-1 with six knockouts, won six consecutive fights at the beginning of his boxing career. He had his first loss to Tommy Fury in a split-decision in February 2023. He followed with three wins, the most recent being against Ryan Bourland on March 2.

Paul is optimistic about the upcoming fight with Tyson, expecting the battle to help solidify his professional boxing bonifides.

“It’s crazy to think that in my second pro fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard. Now, less than four years later, I’m stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons,” said Paul.

“My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion ever, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time,” he added. “This will be the fight of a lifetime.”

Since turning pro in 2020, Paul has racked up multiple achievements, including ESPNRingside’s 2021 Knockout of the Year, Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Breakout Boxer of the Year, ESPNRingside’s 2022 Viral Moment of the Year, and landed the cover of Sports Illustrated’s “The 50 Most Influential Figures in Sports” issue.

"Mike Tyson is one of the biggest icons in boxing history and Jake Paul is one of the biggest disruptors in boxing history,” said Gabe Spitzer, Vice President of Nonfiction Sports at Netflix. “Saturday, July 20 will be pure drama in the ring in Texas. We are thrilled to partner with Most Valuable Promotions for this historic event and we can't wait for these two to face off for fans all across the world on Netflix."
