The explosive claim was made in the latest bombshell report published on Sept. 21 by Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh, who spoke with an official who has access to current intelligence about the conflict. “The war is over. Russia has won. There is no Ukrainian offensive anymore, but the White House and the American media have to keep the lie going,” the official said. According to Hersh’s report, the war is continuing because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insists that it must. Currently, there is no discussion at Zelensky’s headquarters or at the White House about a ceasefire and no interest in discussions that could lead to an end of the conflict. “The truth is if the Ukrainian army is ordered to continue the offensive, the army would mutiny. The soldiers aren’t willing to die any more, but this doesn’t fit the B.S. that is being authored by the Biden White House,” the official explained. Hersh’s report was published two days after Zelensky was in the U.S. delivering a 15-minute speech to the United Nations (UN), his first address to the General Assembly since the conflict with Russia began in February 2022. As the Washington Post reported, Zelensky “delivered his address to a half-full house, with many delegations declining to appear and listen to what he had to say.” “While Russia is pushing the world to the final war, Ukraine is doing everything to ensure that after Russian aggression, no one in the world will dare to attack any nation,” Zelensky said. “Weaponization must be restrained. War crimes must be punished. Deported people must come back home. And the occupier must return to their own land.” Hersh’s source claims Russian President Vladimir Putin committed “a stupid and self-destructive act in starting the war,” adding that the initial attack was poorly planned and led to unnecessary losses. However, the source added the U.S. response in backing Ukraine was a mistake, while also acknowledging that Russia was provoked into the conflict. “Putin did something stupid, no matter how provoked, by violating the UN charter and so did we,” said the official, who, as Hersh elaborated on, referenced Biden’s decision to wage a proxy war with Russia by funding Zelensky and his military. “And so now we have to paint him black, with the help of the media, in order to justify our mistake,” the intelligence official said, referencing a secret disinformation campaign levied against Putin by the CIA in coordination with British Intelligence. Earlier in the week, Biden delivered a speech to the General Assembly insisting that Russia is solely to blame for the war, as Hersh expanded upon, “ignoring, as the leaders of many developing nations do not, three decades of NATO expansion to the east after the Obama administration’s covert involvement in the overthrow of a pro-Russian government in Ukraine in 2014.” Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs recently detailed two main factors responsible for the conflict:Ukraine has already lost the war with Russia, and the Biden administration, with assistance from the U.S. corporate press, is lying about it, according to a U.S. intelligence official.
1. The U.S. intention to expand NATO to Ukraine and Georgia in order to surround Russia in the Black Sea region by NATO countries (Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Georgia, in counterclockwise order) 2. The U.S. role in installing a Russophobic regime in Ukraine by the violent overthrow of Ukraine’s pro-Russian President, Viktor Yanukovych, in February 2014. The shooting war in Ukraine began with Yanukovych’s overthrow nine years ago, not in February 2022 as the U.S. government, NATO, and the G7 leaders would have us believe. Sachs added:
Biden and his foreign policy team refuse to discuss these roots of the war. To recognize them would undermine the administration in three ways. First, it would expose the fact that the war could have been avoided, or stopped early, sparing Ukraine its current devastation and the U.S. more than $100 billion in outlays to date. Second, it would expose President Biden’s personal role in the war as a participant in the overthrow of Yanukovych, and before that as a staunch backer of the military-industrial complex and very early advocate of NATO enlargement. Third, it would push Biden to the negotiating table, undermining the administration’s continued push for NATO expansion. According to Hersh, Biden “has turned his unrelenting financial and moral support for the Ukraine war into a do-or-die issue for his re-election.”
