JD Vance's Wife Leaves Job to 'Focus on Caring for Our Family'

Senator JD Vance’s wife has resigned from her law firm as the family formally joins President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.

Munger, Tolles & Olson announced Usha Chilukuri Vance had left her position as a corporate litigator.

“Usha has informed us she has decided to leave the firm,” a spokesperson from the San Francisco law firm told People. “Usha has been an excellent lawyer and colleague, and we thank her for her years of work and wish her the best in her future career.”

The law firm describes itself as “radically progressive,” according to The New York Times.

Mrs. Vance’s bio was removed from the firm’s website on July 15 – the day her husband was announced as Trump’s vice-presidential pick.

“In light of today’s news, I have resigned from my position at Munger, Tolles & Olson to focus on caring for our family,” she told the magazine. “I am forever grateful for the opportunities I’ve had at Munger and for the excellent colleagues and friends I’ve worked with over the years.”

The Vances met at Yale Law School while taking part in a discussion group. The central topic was the “social decline in white America.”

The couple got married in 2014 in Kentucky. Mrs. Vance was raised near San Diego by Hindu parents. The couple received a blessing from a Hindu pundit in a separate ceremony.

The potential Republican vice president was raised Christian but converted to Catholicism later in life.

The couple have three children – Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. The family lives near Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mrs. Vance clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justices John Roberts as well as Brett Kavanaugh when he served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She also worked for Judge Amul Thapar when he served in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. While at Yale Law, Mrs. Vance participated in the Iraqi Refugee Assistance Program, per SF Gate.

Sen. Vance was one of many Republicans rumored to be on the vice-presidential shortlist. Mrs. Vance was asked about the possibility of serving a Second Lady on Fox & Friends in June.

She said:

I don’t know that anyone is ever ready for that kind of scrutiny. I mean I think we found the first campaign that we embarked on to be a shock, it was so different from anything we had ever done before. But it was an adventure…

I’m not raring to change anything about our lives right now, but I believe in J.D., and I really love him, and so we’ll just sort of see what happens with our life. We’re open.
