Fani Willis Subpoenaed By House Judiciary Committee

Lawmakers investigating alleged misappropriation of nearly $500,000 in federal funds

Fani Willis Subpoenaed By House Judiciary Committee

The U.S. House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over whistleblower allegations that she misused federal funds allocated to her office.

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has ordered Willis to turn over documents for receipt and use of federal funds for a $488,000 federal grant that was earmarked for the creation of a Center of Youth Empowerment and Gang Prevention. The request is the third made by the committee, which previously sent letters last September and December.

According to the letter, a whistleblower has come forward stating that Willis’ office used the money to “get MacBooks…swag…[and] use it for travel.”

The whistleblower also told the committee that the expenditures were part of Willis’ “vision,” despite the DA being warned that reallocating the grant funding was impossible because the terms of the grant were “very, very specific.”

Jordan explains that less than two months after receiving the warning, the whistleblower was “abruptly terminated” and was escorted out of the office by seven armed investigators.

“These allegations raise serious concerns about whether you were appropriately supervising the expenditure of federal grant funding allocated to your office and whether you took actions to conceal your office’s unlawful use of federal funds,” Jordan wrote.

The Judiciary Committee is also investigating allegations that Willis had an inappropriate relationship with an attorney she tapped to be a special prosecutor in her case against former President Donald Trump.

According to a legal filing from Michael Roman, a co-defendant with former President Donald Trump, Willis has been having an affair with prosecutor Nathan Wade and has improperly financially benefitted from the arrangement by using taxpayer money to take lavish vacations.

“Accordingly, the district attorney and the special prosecutor have violated laws regulating the use of public monies, suffer from irreparable conflicts of interest, and have violated their oaths of office under the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct and should be disqualified from prosecuting this matter,” the filing states.

Corporate news outlets have dismissed the allegations by arguing the filing does not contain “direct evidence” of an improper relationship.

However, in a related divorce proceeding, Wade’s wife has produced credit card statements showing that he purchased airline tickets for himself and Willis for multiple trips.
