Former President Bill Clinton is bringing back his "Clinton Global Initiative" foundation after a five-year hiatus.
Clinton confirmed his decision to resurrect the group on social media, writing “The last 5 years have ripped the cover off of longstanding global vulnerabilities, but I still believe we can accomplish far more together than we can apart. That’s why I’m looking forward to the next chapter of @ClintonGlobal.”
The organization shut-down in early 2017 over allegations the network was a major conflict-of-interest for Hillary Clinton during her 2016 race for the White House and her time as U.S. Secretary of State.
The former President penned a lengthy op-ed on his foundation’s website explaining the new goals of his global initiative.
“Our commitment-based approach to creative cooperation has been successful. Through CGI, more than 3,700 projects and partnerships — what we call Commitments to Action — have been launched, making a difference in the lives of more than 435 million people in over 180 countries. I’m deeply grateful to all of you for the impact you have made with CGI,” writes Clinton.
“Thank you again for all that you have done and continue to do to create a better future. Hillary, Chelsea, and I look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks and months,” he concludes.
