UPDATE: 3 Students, 3 Adults Dead After Female Shooter Attacks Nashville Elementary School

UPDATE: Law enforcement confirmed a 28-year-old female shooter is responsible for the deaths of three adults and three children at The Covenant School in Nashville, per Fox News.

"We know that she was armed with at least two assault-type rifles and a handgun," Don Aaron, the director of the Police Department Media Relations Office, told reporters shortly after 12 p.m. "We are effecting now to identify her."

Aaron said the shooter entered the school through a side entrance and made her way from the first floor to the second floor of the building.

Original Story:

An active shooting incident at a private Christian elementary school in Nashville has ended with officers killing the shooter, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

Around 10:30 am, first responders were called to a reported shooting at The Covenant School, a Presbyterian school with roughly 200 students.

According to a statement from the MNPD, “the shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead.”

The Nashville Fire Department confirmed there were “multiple patients” being treated.

Shortly after the incident, the New York Post reported that three people, in addition to the gunman, were killed in the incident. “[Three] pediatric patients were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, all having suffered gunshot wounds. All three were pronounced dead after arrival,” John Howser, chief communications officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, said in a statement, per the Post.

Special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said in a statement posted to Twitter they were assisting MNPD.

Police have setup a reunification area nearby where parents can come to pick up their children.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.

Correction: Though an earlier report from director of the Police Department Media Relations Office claimed the shooter "appears to be in her teens," it has since been confirmed that the shooter was 28 years old.
